.Poole R.A. is a respected English Genre Painter. Originally a self-taught artist from Bristol, Poole exhibited at the Royal Academy at 25, and became a regular exhibitor from 1837. In 1846 he was elected an associate, and a full member in 1861. He was best known for his genre, historical and religious scenes, and came to prominence during the early Victorian period, which was heavily inspired by the realist movement in France. His generation preceded and directly influenced the Pre-Raphaelite Movement. His contemporaries included George Elgar Hicks, Thomas Danby, GF Watts, William Powell Frith & Augustus Egg. He lived and painted the majority of his life in Camden, and is buried in Highgate Cemetery. His work is represented in several major collections including the Royal Academy, V&A Museum, Tate Britain, Royal Holloway and the National Gallery Of Victoria.
